"Our Most Recent Success Story!" |
Aunt Betty - just turned 4 years old in 2005, she is a thirteen inch Beagle that we rescued from an area pet store. A careless individual dropped Aunt Betty on the floor when she was four months old and broke her left elbow and hyperextended the tendon in her right front leg. She had been left in the back room of the pet store and never received any medical attention. Subsequently, her legs healed improperly.
She was left in the back room for one month before we rescued her. By the time we got her to an orthopedic surgeon, it was too late to perform surgery on her legs. They could not repair the damage that had been done. |
Since surgery was not an option, we turned to natural foods, nutritional supplements, homeopathics, and exercise. (She loves her Innova hard food, boiled chicken and veggies!)
Today after her accident, Aunt Betty is almost "normal" and leads a life typical of a young Beagle her age. Her right tendon has almost totally repaired itself (it is only slightly hyperextended now) and though her left elbow is fused, she gets up and down stairs, on and off the couch and around the park pond without much trouble at all! She loves playing with her family (including the puppy) and ruffing up her toys! |
At times she has pain, as is to be expected with such a serious injury, but to managed her pain we use homeopathics and Arthrisoothe Gold liquid. We do not use any traditional pain medication (which would inevitably cause liver damage.) Aunt Betty actually tells us when she wants her supplements by going to the basket where we keep them next to the couch. She waits there patiently until we give them to her!
She's come such a long way! |
Here is Aunt Betty on Christmas Day. She is glancing heavenward ... or, rather, at the top of the Christmas tree ... because we had strategically placed Booda Squatter plush toys in between the branches. Truly a Beagle's Christmas wish come true! You should have heard her "talk" to the toys in that way specific to Beagles: "Aaoouugghh! Aaoouugghh!" |
